Peer Coaching (Tutoring)

STEMworks provides free peer-to-peer learning services to all GW students, regardless of major. While we cannot support every GW course, we will try our best to place you with one of our available coaches and help you get the support you need for academic success. We specialize in supporting the quantitative courses, including accountancy, chemistry, economics, and mathematics.

How do I sign up? Please use the expandable menus (under the "+" signs) above to join a small group session or learn more about our drop-in sessions. You don’t need an appointment or reservation to participate in the drop-in sessions, although sign-ups are encouraged.

Can I do one-on-one coaching? Because of the volume of students we serve, we can’t guarantee one-on-one sessions with all of our coaches. Our small group sessions have a maximum of three (3) students, and our peer coaches are trained to help facilitate group work and group learning. If you feel you might be a candidate for one-on-one coaching, please email stemworks@gwu.edu.

Is there a limit to how much coaching I can have? Yes, you may only sign up for small-group coaching with one coach, once a week, for one hour. You can sign up again the next week, with the same coach or a different one. Drop-in hours, right now, are unlimited and you may visit any number of drop-in sessions throughout the week. However, STEMworks reserves the right to limit drop-in hours if necessary.

I don’t see my course. What should I do? Please fill out this form. If we can, we’ll try to find a peer coach for you. If we can’t, we’ll try to match you with other campus resources or help you arrange group sessions with other students. You can also try out our online tutoring service, provided through Smarthinking.
