Resource Sharing and Course Reserves

The Resource Sharing and Course Reserves team facilitates the sharing of library materials between libraries in our local consortia, around the US, and beyond, and helps GW faculty make library materials for their courses accessible both in person and electronically.

Major duties of the Resource Sharing and Course Reserves team:

  • Receive requests from GW students, faculty, and staff for books and articles not found within GW Libraries.
  • Search other libraries' holdings to determine availability and contact them to make borrowing arrangements.
  • Physically receive shipped items and process for circulation to GW users.
  • Electronically receive scanned items and make available to GW users via the library's patron portal.
  • Return borrowed items to lending libraries in accordance with established due dates.
  • Receive requests from other libraries for items in GW Libraries.
  • Retrieve items from locations within Gelman Library, and arrange for retrievals off-site.
  • Prepare items for shipment or scanning and delivery to the requesting patron or library.
  • Receive requests from GW faculty for course materials to be placed on reserve physically or electronically.
  • Confirm that requests adhere to GW copyright guidelines.
  • Prepare and label in-house materials for on-shelf reserves.
  • Scan electronic reserves items and post links on faculty Blackboard sites.
