The Office of Development, part of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), is responsible for engaging diverse constituencies in the work of GW Libraries and Academic Innovation and cultivating philanthropic interest in the wide range of activities that GWLAI undertakes to support teaching, learning, and research across the university.

Major duties of the Development team:

  • Leading all fundraising efforts, including annual giving, major and principal giving, planned giving, and foundation and corporate giving
  • Setting yearly attainment goals in support of the activities of GWLAI
  • Creating individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies for major and principal prospects, managing prospect portfolios, and conducting prospect research
  • Stewarding all GWLAI donors to ensure that their gifts are properly expended and recognized
  • Working with GWLAI staff and DAR staff across the university to cultivate prospects and develop funding proposals
  • Collaborating with GWLAI staff, the Office of the Vice President for Research, and the Foundation Relations team in the pre-award grant writing process
  • Developing donor cultivation events that showcase the work of GWLAI to prospective donors
  • Working with the Communications and Outreach team to develop annual issues of VISION magazine
  • Managing the Memorial Bookplate Program, which recognizes recently deceased GW alumni and community members by plating a book from the GW Libraries’ general collections in their honor
